Under the leadership of Commissioner Bob Odom, the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry is responsible for the promotion, protection, and advancement of agriculture and forestry in the state.

State Forester Paul Frey who heads the Office of Forestry is charged with the mission of protecting, conserving and replenishing the forest natural resources of the state.

One aspect of the Office of Forestry is Urban Forestry, the planning, establishment, management and protection of trees and forests in urban and rural communities. Urban forestry facilitates the education and training of people who live and work in urban environments.

The urban forestry program provides technical assistance, training and education to the general public, municipal and parish governments, tree advocacy groups, public institutions, and other state agencies.

Program managers administer the Louisiana Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program. The grant program provides competitive federal matching grants to non-profit groups and state and local governments to assist in start-up or improvement of local urban forestry programs.

In addition, the department works closely with and lends support to the Louisiana Urban Forestry Council while promoting urban forestry.  For more information on the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, please visit the following sites:
