Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program
Each year, the USDA Forest Service allocates Louisiana
monies through this program. $225,238 was distributed through this Grant
Program in 2001.
Originating from the expanded Forestry Title of the 1990
Farm Bill, the Urban & Community Forestry Program includes funding to all states
for community forestry projects. The purpose of this program is to foster
regular, self-sufficient, tree maintenance at the community level. Education
about proper tree care and the creation of a permanent tree maintenance
structure in the community are the main goals of this program.
Local governmental units, public educational units, and
approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations are the acceptable applicants for
this grant program. This program is a 50/50 cost-share of federal to local
dollars or in-kind services. Federal funds may be utilized in several manners.
Grant categories are arranged to help applicants to apply
for projects that will assist their community forestry program in growing toward
self-sufficiency.
